About Us

Trucking 101 roots can be found in the idea that an educated driver/Owner Operator is a better driver/Owner Operator.

The Inspirational Story of Roger Decker

My father, Roger Decker, was just a good ole country boy from Jenny Lind, AR. He and his sisters grew up dirt poor, and he used to say that poor people looked rich compared to his family. As he grew older, he wanted better for himself and his family, but resources were limited. He and my mother Margaret had one truck, and he later opened a truck brokerage in 1990. They never had a place to go to get good information that would allow them to grow and prosper, and they had to learn everything the hard way!

Planting Trees for the Future of the Industry

We are pulling back the curtain and helping individuals in the industry avoid those traps to better provide for their families. We are planting the trees so others may sit in the shade. Trucking 101 is our way of paying it forward and ensuring that the next generation of drivers, owner-operators, and small carriers have the knowledge and resources they need to succeed in the transportation industry.

Helping Truck Drivers

The Need for Trucking 101

Trucking 101 roots can be found in the idea that an educated driver/Owner Operator is a better driver/Owner Operator. In mid-2020, when the freight market took off and became a modern-day gold rush, many individuals got into the transportation industry. They had never previously been a part of it or had limited exposure to the industry.

Addressing the Lack of Unbiased Information

As we spoke with more and more individuals, we realized there was no one place where drivers and owner-operators could go to get up-to-date industry knowledge that wasn’t skewed in one form or fashion or the other. Additionally, the websites and apps we came across always seemed to want to sell something or try and push the individual to work for one company or another. We felt that it was essential that Drivers, Owner Operators, and small carriers have a place where they can go and find valuable information that will help them and not try and sell to them.

A Message from the Founder

{

“Trucking 101 isn’t about me, and it isn’t about the two companies I have the privilege to be a part of. It’s about the present and the future of the transportation industry. It’s about the Men & Women out on the road making it happen day in and day out, and we are here to serve them and make things easier for them. I once read a statement, “The one who plants trees knowing that he or she will never sit in their shade has at least started to understand the meaning of life. - Rabindranath Tagore”

Making Our Operations Transparent for Truck Drivers

As a truck driver, you might wonder how we run a completely free website and app without ads or companies paying for a spot on our platform. So, how do we cover our costs, and what’s in it for us? Our funding comes from two companies that our founder is president of. One is an OTR carrier primarily made up of Owner Operators, and the other is a truck brokerage. We don’t promote them, but we do appreciate their support, and you can find their information below.

We also have valued partners in the industry. Some of them may pay a finder’s fee or offer a referral bonus if we’re listed as a referral. If you come across such an opportunity, please mention Trucking 101 as a referral to help us offset our operating costs. We use the money collected to expand Trucking 101 and bring essential knowledge to those who need it in the trucking community.
